Amazon Prime Video (technically just “Prime Video”) and IMDbTV (now called “Freevee”) are changing their names to be more user-friendly, so let me be the first to introduce our new name: “TV.” We are getting rid of “Guide.” Now you can read about TV while watching TV to find new shows to watch. We’ll help you figure out what to watch on Prime Video in May. On May 20, Night Sky, a sci-fi show with J.K. Simmons and Sissy Spacek, will start its first season. If you don’t like paying for TV or just like commercials, watch Troppo, a swampy mystery with Thomas Jane that comes out on May 20.
For those late to the party, Season 2 of The Wilds, a YA drama about a group of girls who crash land on an island, came out earlier this month on Prime Video. Or so we’re told. The Canadian sketch shows The Kids in the Hall also returned with a new season. For the Bosch spin-off Bosch: Legacy, Harry Bosch moved from Prime Video to Freevee.

Amazon’s New TV Shows and Movies to Watch in May
The Wilds Season 2 (May 6, Prime Video)
When we last saw The Wilds, one of 2020’s pleasant surprises, a group of teenage girls who had been stranded on a deserted island were starting to figure out something was up. One of them found out that what had happened to them—a fake plane crash that left them alone on the island—was also happening to a group of boys. We’ll find out what the boys did this season and find out who among the girls made it or didn’t. Season 1 did a great job of showing what it’s like to be a teen girl no matter where you are. Will Season 2 do the same for teen boys?
Bosch: Legacy Season 1 (May 6, Freevee)
Bosch doesn’t get cancelled; he just moves on to the next case. Based on Michael Connelly’s police novels, the famous Amazon show Bosch is brought back to life in this sequel. In it, Harry Bosch (Titus Welliver) gives up his badge and gets a licence to be a private investigator. This time, though, he’s doing it on Amazon’s Freevee streaming service, which is free and supported by ads. Maddie, who Madison Lintz plays, is Bosch’s daughter. She will be back, and like her dad, she will be going to the police academy. We hope she doesn’t do what he did next and kill someone. Mimi Rogers, who plays Chandler, will also be back to lead the show.
The Kids in the Hall Season 6, maybe? (May 13, Prime Video)
Ask your parents what’s so funny about a guy putting his fingers together and saying, “I’m crushing your head.” Or you could just watch this revival of Kids in the Hall, a sketch comedy show from a well-known Canadian group with the same name, and think, “Hey, that’s the guy from Superstore!” The original show ran for three seasons on HBO and then for two seasons on CBS. The last season, which aired in 1995, was where they all got buried alive. That’s very important to know to understand the trailer. Dave Foley, Bruce McCulloch, Kevin McDonald, Mark McKinney, and Scott Thompson are all back and as silly as ever.
Night Sky Season 1 (May 20, Prime Video)
Amazon likes it when older people find strange ways to get to even stranger places. After Josh Brolin’s “cowboy finds a hole” show, Outer Range, comes “couple finds a portal to another planet” show Night Sky, starring J.K. Simmons and Sissy Spacek. In it, the characters played by Simmons and Spacek keep their secret from everyone until someone else shows up. Start the mystery in space!
Troppo Season 1 (May 20, Freevee)
This Australian show is about a cop (Thomas Jane) who hides out in the swamps of Queensland after being wrongly accused of a crime and was picked up by Freevee. Nicole Chamoun, a mysterious woman, pulls him in to solve a murder and find a missing person. This turns his life upside down. Alligators do eat people, based on the best-selling book Crimson Lake.
