Will Smith has been banned from Oscars and other Academy events for ten years after the American actor beat comedian Chris Rock at the Oscars.

It has been almost two weeks since Will Smith beat Chris Rock at the 2022 Oscars. Smith has since apologized for his actions and resigned from the awards. The actor hit Rock for the joke about his wife’s shaved head, which was the result of her hair loss condition.

Within an hour, he was awarded the best actor award for his role in “King Richard”, starring the father of tennis stars Venus and Serena Williams.

The Academy is meeting on April 8, today, to decide what “consequences” Smith will face in the incident when the actor hit Rock on stage and insulted him after the comedian joked about Jada Pinkett Smith.

Rock had joked, referring to Pinkett Smith’s shaved head

Jada, I love you. GI Jane 2, I can’t wait to see you,”. Pinkett Smith said last year that after suffering from alopecia.

Smith, who later won the best actor award at the event, hit Rock on the stage before scolding him:

“Keep my wife’s name out your f***ing mouth.”

In the statement issued after the incident, the Academy condemned Smith’s action, saying it was still investigating possible penalties.

The organization said:

The Academy condemns Mr. Smith’s actions in last night’s showWe have officially begun a formal review of the incident and will review other actions and consequences in accordance with the ByLaws, Code of Conduct, and California law.”

Smith then resigned from the Academy, but some thought he might be stripped of his Best Actor award – which he won at this year’s event, for his contribution to the biopic tennis game King Richard. Jada Pinkett Smith, Smith’s wife will still be allowed to attend events.
