Tom Hardy made an unexpected appearance at a martial arts tournament, ultimately winning the championship.
According to the Guardian, Peaky Blinders actor joined the 2022 Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Open Championship, which was held at a high school gym in Milton Keynes, England. His unexpected appearance surprised both onlookers and opponents since he entered under his real name, Edward Hardy.
Hardy came out of nowhere to win all of his fights, similar to his performance in the 2011 MMA movie Warrior.
The championships’ spokeswoman praised Hardy as a “really nice guy” who was a “real pleasure” to have at their event.
“Everyone recognized him but he was very humble and was happy to take time out for people to take photographs with him. It was a real pleasure to have him compete at our event.”
Tom Hardy won the REORG Open Jiu-Jitsu Championship in Wolverhampton in August, an event to benefit military troops, veterans, and emergency service staff. Hardy is a trustee for REORG, a nonprofit that teaches jiu-jitsu to those who have suffered significant injuries or are struggling form PTSD and depression.
