The enormously popular fictitious squad, AFC Richmond will appear among a variety of real-world teams in EA Sports’ FIFA game.
Jason Sudeikis, who plays the show’s namesake manager in Ted Lasso, will give his likeness to the game, as will major members of its on-pitch cast including Brett Goldenstein‘s Roy Kent, Phil Dunster’s Jamie Tarth, and Cristo Fernández’s Dani Rojas.
Players may take command of the team or join it as either a manager or a player using their own created avatar.
Last week, a listing for AFC Richmond temporarily surfaced on EA’s FIFA ratings database before being withdrawn, hinting at an anticipated crossover with the award-winning Apple TV+ comedy series. That may have been the end of it, but the official Ted Lasso Twitter account posted an image of what looks to be Sudeikis, on Tuesday.
According to The Guardian, Sudeikis stated in a press release, “As long-time fans of Fifa, having Ted Lasso and the whole AFC Richmond squad incorporated into the newest version of the game is truly a dream come true for myself and the rest of the fellas. Our cast and crew work tremendously hard on this show, and we are flattered that it resonates with so many folks. We look forward to our fans having the opportunity to play with, play as, and even play against their favorite AFC Richmond characters.”
FIFA 23 will be released on September 30.
