In Star Trek: Voyager’s third season, the episode “The Q and the Grey” brought back the mischievous Q, played by John de Lancie, but overlooked a significant tie-in to Star Trek: The Next Generation (TNG) character Amanda Rogers, portrayed by Olivia d’Abo.

While Q’s return to Voyager added depth to his character and explored new facets of the Q Continuum, it missed an opportunity to acknowledge Amanda Rogers. In TNG’s “True Q,” Rogers, despite being raised by human parents, discovered she was a Q with extraordinary powers.

Although she was born to two Q parents, her upbringing and circumstances of birth differed from the typical Q conception.

Q’s assertion that his child with Miss Q was the first offspring of two Q members overlooked Rogers’ existence. While Q may have disregarded her due to her human upbringing, her eventual acceptance into the Continuum solidified her status as a Q.

Voyager’s failure to reference Amanda Rogers during Q’s return represents a missed opportunity for a compelling tie-in to TNG. Acknowledging Rogers could have added depth and nuance to the episode, highlighting the interconnectedness of the Star Trek universe.

Despite this oversight, both Voyager and TNG continue to captivate fans with their rich storytelling and memorable characters.
