Spider-Punk to feature in ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’

Spider-Punk is set to appear in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, the anticipated sequel to Oscar-winning film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

Several pieces of Spider-Punk-themed wrap products for Across the Spider-Verse has appeared on internet, confirming the character’s presence in the movie. The first is a plastic mask that looks like Spider-mask, Punk’s complete with mohawk-style spikes. Meanwhile, the second item is a toy guitar with the Spider-Punk emblem on the pickguard.

Spider-Punk debuted his own namesake series earlier this year, following appearances in Spider-Verse and Web Warriors. Marvel Comics’ Spider-Punk, written by Cody Ziglar and drawn by Justin Mason, launched its third issue earlier this month. Producers of Into the Spider-Verse, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, had previously shown interest in featuring Spider-Punk in the movie.

Spider-Punk appears in Across the Spider-Verse, joining Miguel O’Hara, Miles Morales, Gwen Stacy, and Peter B. Parker, all of whom returning back for Into the Spider-Verse. But, Spider-Punk isn’t the only newbie in the picture, as Issa Rae voices the original Jessica Drew variant of Spider-Woman.

The upcoming movie is directed by Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers, and Justin K. Thompson from the screenplay by Lord, Miller, and David Callaham for Sony Pictures Animation. The film set to release on June 2, 2023.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will be followed by Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, which will be released on March 29, 2024. Sony also has plans for an animated Spider-Women spinoff film, which began production in 2018.
