Russo Brothers to work with The Weeknd for musical movie

The Russo Brothers would like to create an experimental musical with The Weeknd inspired from the 2021 Super Bowl Halftime Show.

Joe and Anthony Russo have an entirely different plan for their next big movie after The Gray Man. The directors told Rolling Stone that they want to be creative and maybe explore the area of musicals with a renowned musical performer.

Joe Russo stated that he noticed screenplay potential after witnessing The Weeknd’s Super Bowl Halftime Show in 2021. Abel Makkonen Tesfaye, will also appear in the forthcoming HBO series The Idol, which he co-created with Euphoria showrunner Sam Levinson and Reza Fahim.

“I’d love to do a musical. In fact, we were talking to a few contemporary artists including The Weeknd about trying to get a musical off the ground. I’d love to work with someone who wants to do an experimental musical. I thought what he did during his Super Bowl show was awesome. I’d love to see that as a movie.”

The Weeknd’s halftime performance at the Super Bowl was all about the entertainment. It was jam-packed with unforgettable moments, thanks to the big hall of mirrors and masked performers. When you blend the aesthetic flare and set elements of the Halftime production with the Russo Brothers directing and a big budget, the potential for a stunning show are unlimited.
