Ranbir Kapoor has declined an invitation to appear on Koffee With Karan and in fact wants Karan Johar to pay him the same sum he earns.
Karan Johar recently revealed in an interview that Ranbir Kapoor has refused to appear on his show because he is afraid of saying something controversial which may land him in trouble. Although, Ranbir had previously appeared on Koffee with Karan Season 5 Episode 4 and shared the couch with Gully Boy star Ranveer Singh.
“He’s a really close friend of mine. He said ‘If I say something, something will go wrong so I’m not coming’.”
Karan has also highlighted Ranbir’s sole condition that may persuade him to be on the show. “He teases me, he says ‘you pay me what you’re getting, then I’ll come’. I said ‘why should I pay you? I’m not paying you’. I’m paying you enough for the movies you’re doing.’”
He went on to say that he respects his guests’ decision and that just because they are good friends does not obligate them to appear on his show. “And I respect that. Just because they are close friends, they shouldn’t come. They should come if they want to come.”
While Ranbir Kapoor will not be appearing this season, his wife Alia Bhatt will be among the first guests on the show. She will appear with Singh in the first episode.
Alia and Ranbir married in an intimate ceremony at the latter’s home in April of this year. Brahmastra, the couple’s much-delayed and much awaited film, is co-produced by Karan Johar. It is set to be released in theaters on September 9.
