Nicole Kidman and Javier Bardem will reunite for Spellbound, an animated fantasy musical produced by Apple Studios and Skydance Animation.
The cast also includes John Lithgow, Nathan Lane, Jenifer Lewis, André De Shields, and Jordan Fisher. Rachel Zegler from West Side Story stars as Princess Ellian, a young princess who goes on a perilous adventure to rescue her family and realm when a mystery enchantment transforms them into monsters and threatens to cover Lumbria in darkness for all time.
Nicole Kidman will play Ellian’s mother, Ellsmere, a compassionate and just, yet hyper-precise queen and Javier Bardem will play as father, Solon, the pompous yet big-hearted king.
Lithgow, as Minister Bolinar, and Lewis, as Minister Nazara Prone, will serve as the princess’s royal counsellors. In the musical, Ellian calls out The Oracles of the Sun and Moon (Lane and De Shields) to help her parents and the kingdom break the curse. During her journey, she will meet a young nomad named Callan who is to be played by Jordan Fisher.
Vicky Jenson is directing the film, which was written by Lauren Hynek, Elizabeth Martin, and Linda Woolverton.
Alan Menken is composing the songs and developing the soundtrack for Spellbound. He’s collaborating with Glenn Slater, who will write the lyrics. Executive music producer is Chris Montan.
The released date is yet to be announced.
