In a significant casting update for James Gunn’s upcoming DC film “Superman,” Georgia-born actress Neva Howell has been announced to portray Martha Kent, the beloved adoptive mother of Clark Kent, also known as Superman.

This news follows Pruitt Taylor Vince’s recent casting as Pa Kent, Martha’s husband, indicating a full family dynamic for the Kent household in the film.

Howell joins a distinguished lineage of actresses who have previously portrayed Ma Kent on the big screen, including Phyllis Thaxter, Eva Marie Saint, and Diane Lane. Her addition adds depth to the Georgia shoot, which already boasts an impressive ensemble cast.

Superman” features Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, David Corenswet as the titular hero, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, and a host of other talented actors in various roles. The film promises to explore Superman’s struggle to balance his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing, embodying the timeless values of truth, justice, and kindness.

As the inaugural installment in Gunn and Peter Safran’s revitalized DC Universe titled “Gods and Monsters,” “Superman” aims to deliver a fresh take on the iconic superhero without revisiting his origins.

With Warner Bros’ extensive history of successful Superman films, including seven previous releases that collectively grossed $2.8 billion worldwide, anticipation for Gunn’s interpretation is running high.

Scheduled for release on July 11, 2025, “Superman” promises to bring a new dimension to the beloved superhero saga, with Howell’s portrayal of Martha Kent adding emotional depth to the narrative.
