Netflix has given greenlight to the Korean action movie Believer 2, a sequel to hit crime movie Believer.

The original film, Believer drew 5.06 million viewers and grossed $33.6 million at the box office, the sequel will only be available on Netflix.

The film will be directed by Baek Jong-yeol, who previously helmed the 2015 popular fantasy romance The Beauty Inside. The choice of Baek is likely to give the new picture a distinct style from the original Believer.

The recurring cast members include Cho Jin-woong and Cha Seung-won, as well as actress Han Hyo-joo, Oh Seung-hoon, Kim Dong-young, and Lee Joo-young.

Lee Hae Young’s debut film, written and directed by him, saw a determined cop linked up with a gang member to apprehend Mr. Lee, the evasive head of Asia’s greatest narcotics cartel. The sequel reteams the officer with gang members who are not what they appear to be, introduces Han Hyo-joo as Big Sword, another dubious character with insights into Lee’s organization, and features larger-scale action. A skirmish at Seoul’s Yongsan station is among the set piece action moments.

According to Korean media, production will begin soon in Korea and overseas, and a spin-off series is being considered.

Cha is now in high demand with the success of the 2021 film Sinkhole and the continuing TV series Our Blues.
