Amazon Studios original series The Boys has never been afraid to display explicit content, but with its Herogasm episode, the show has delivered a surprising, series-defining sight.
In a recent interview, Karl Urban who plays Butcher opened about the most hyped and awaited episode and says he was relieved not to be in the midst of the Herogasm event, and instead arrived in the aftermath.
He shared a story about his co-star Jensen Ackles (Soldier Boy) while filming the episode, claiming that the sequences disturbed the crew on set. “Jensen tells this funny story, where he came on set one day and walked up to one of the cameramen who was sitting on a box eating a sandwich. Jensen was like, “Hey, how’s it going?” And the cameraman looks up at him and goes, “Dude, I’ve seen some things.” I think that the Herogasm scenes, for the most part, traumatized the crew more than anybody else.”
The tone established by this superhero spoof since the opening sequence in the pilot episode has left an indelible mark on the audience in a variety of ways. In fact, most of the fans have become progressively used to the explicit content.
Urban further revealed that the show is all about making actors uncomfortable and pushing their limits. ” Yeah, with this show, you know you’re in the right place when you’re uncomfortable, and we certainly found that line for Jensen. When Jensen Ackles is making phone calls to Kripke going, “I don’t know if I can do this. This is way out there. I just don’t know,” that’s when you’re in the right place and you’re pushing the boundaries. This show seems to do that on a pretty consistent basis.”
The Boys season 4 filming has already begun, and the release date will be announced soon.
