In an exciting revelation, James Gunn, maestro behind the upcoming Superman reboot, took to Instagram on February 29 to declare the initiation of principal photography for the film.

Gunn, who shares the reins of DC Studios with Peter Safran, also dropped a bombshell regarding the movie’s title. Originally christened Superman: Legacy, it has now been streamlined to the succinct and powerful moniker – Superman.

According to Variety, the director shared a captivating glimpse of his unique interpretation of Superman’s costume alongside the announcement. Gunn conveyed his elation with a caption that included a bit of serendipity: “Overjoyed to be announcing the start of principal photography on SUPERMAN today, February 29, which just so happens to be – coincidentally and unplanned – Superman’s birthday.”

Gunn explained the evolution of the title, stating, “When I finished the first draft of the script, I called the film ‘Superman: Legacy.’ By the time I locked the final draft, it was clear the title was SUPERMAN.” The movie is slated for a grand arrival in theaters on July 11, 2025.

The star-studded cast features David Corenswet as Superman, alongside Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane and Nicholas Hoult portraying the notorious Lex Luthor. Gunn’s ensemble also includes Skyler Gisondo (Jimmy Olsen), Anthony Carrigan (Metamorpho), Edi Gathegi (Mister Terrific), Nathan Fillion (Guy Gardner), Isabela Mercad (Hawkgirl), and more.

Brosnahan, speaking about the recent table read, expressed her excitement, stating, “It was amazing to hear the script out loud. As with all of these films, there’s a lot of action sequences and things. So to hear the pacing of the film and to get to hear these characters occupied by the actors who play them is really fun.”

Anticipation is building for this Gunn-helmed Superman saga, promising a fresh take on the iconic superhero when it graces the silver screen in 2025.
