Canadian director April Mullen’s (Below His Mouth) entertaining new sci-fi thriller Hello Stranger, still in the pre-production stage, added Sam Worthington (Avatar) and Jordana Brewster (The Fast and The Furious) to join Luke Grimes as part of the cast.
Hello Stranger is about a widow, Faye, who tries to replace her late partner Evan (Grimes) with an android simulant (SIM). Although the similarities between the deceased husband and his android replacement are almost uncanny, Faye can’t pretend to love android Evan the same way it loves her. SIM Evan is determined to win Faye but, while trying to earn her love, he must also evade Worthington, a government agent tasked to track down and arrest sentient SIMS and thus become a threat to the community and their future.
The screenplay author is Ryan Christopher Churchill (Love your Enemy). It will be the follow-up feature film of Mullen after her 2021 thriller Wander, which starred Tommy Lee Jones, Aaron Eckhart, and Katheryn Winnick as part of the cast. James van der Woerd and Tim Doiron, who worked on Wander previously, are working as producers with the president of Kirk D’Amico, Myriad Pictures, serving as executive producer.
Doiron made the following statement about the newly added cast members:
The addition of Sam and Jordana to Hello Stranger takes an already stellar creative team to the next level. We have secured our dream cast for this film and cannot wait to bring this project to life.
Myriad Pictures will handle international sales, while Verve Ventures and CAA are handling domestic, and Mongrel will be distributing in Canada. Hello Stranger is in its pre-production stages, so a release date has not been announced yet.
