Harley Quinn showrunner Patrick Schumacker teases that the season 3 villain is something DC has never been done before.

In 2019, the adult animated series Harley Quinn premiered to critical and public praise, with both critics and fans appreciating the show’s blend of dark humor and somber narrative. The show was renewed for a third season and debuted on HBO Max on July 28, 2022.

The series follows the titular Harley Quinn, her girlfriend Poison Ivy, and a diverse group of evil misfits as they try to create a name for themselves in Gotham’s criminal underworld. Among the many compliments heaped on the series is the fact that it takes a fresh look at established DC characters.

In a recent interview, Schumacker stated that the debut of the season’s enemy is what he is most excited about. The co-showrunner is confident it will surprise viewers, including longtime DC fans.

“The thing I’m really looking forward to is in the middle of the season, when we find out who our antagonist is for this season; who the Big Bad is. And I think it’s going to surprise some people. I don’t think it’s been done before in the DC universe – in the entirety of DC canon. [Laughs] Maybe it’ll be polarizing. I don’t know. I think it’s pretty fun and unexpected, and that’s what I’m looking forward to.

With Schumacker’s hint, it’s likely that spectators may witness a DC hero play an evil for the first time. Season 3’s main nemesis is slated to debut during the midpoint of the season, so Harley Quinn fans should expect a big surprise from the series’ newest enemy.

Harley Quinn Season 3 is currently available on HBO Max. If you live outside the US, you can still access HBO Max using a VPN.
