The school bell is ringing once again at Abbott Elementary, and this time, the teachers, including series creator Quinta Brunson and Emmy winner Sheryl Lee Ralph, are gearing up for a season filled with unexpected twists.
In an exciting revelation, Brunson teased that season three is all about embracing the unexpected. “I spoke to Janelle (James), who told me that she never knew what was going to happen in the scripts. And that was great because that’s what we wanted to give the writers—’space,'” said Brunson.
The element of surprise extends not only to the audience but also to the cast, creating an intriguing and dynamic atmosphere on set.
Tyler James Williams hinted at a rollercoaster of events in the first episode, describing it as a “pretty dense sequence.” The unpredictability of the scripts keeps the actors on their toes, with Janelle James expressing her excitement, saying, “I get excited when I read it. I never thought she would say this or that or whatever.”
Chris Perfetti emphasized the collaborative spirit on set, highlighting the trust among the cast and creators. “I really trust that the people in the room and Quinta know what’s best for these characters,” he said.
As the characters evolve, Lisa Ann Walter emphasized the comfort level the audience has developed with the Abbott family. This familiarity allows the show to explore new territories and aspects of the characters’ lives. Walter teased, “It’s okay to go on little excursions that explore not just places but aspects of our lives.”
Sheryl Lee Ralph, with a mischievous laugh, warned, “Don’t get too comfortable.” She hinted at the unexpected and unconventional nature of the upcoming season, stating, “And if you think we’re going to be ZIG, trust me, we’re going to be ZAG!”
