HBO is working on a Game of Thrones spinoff series based primarily on Jon Snow. Kit Harington also is set to reprise his role as the main protagonist in the live-action drama.
The new series will take place after the events of Game of Thrones, possibly shattering what many felt was a foregone conclusion to the immensely popular series.
Snow discovered his actual identity and that he may be the successor to the Iron Throne in the final season of Game of Thrones. The series ended with his banishment from Westeros, riding into the Haunted Forest with Ghost and the Wildlings to start a new life.
During Harington’s time on the show, he was nominated for two Emmys; supporting actor and lead actor in a drama series. Harington has also starred as Dane Whitman in Marvel’s Eternals, appeared in an episode of Amazon’s Modern Love, and headlined Shakespeare’s Henry V at the Donmar Warehouse in London.
HBO has spent the last three years focusing on Game of Thrones prequels. House of the Dragon is expected to launch this summer, with many more under production, including Dunk and Egg and The Sea Snake. The strategy move also corresponds with the recent WarnerMedia-Discovery merger, which resulted in new leadership for HBO and the other WarnerMedia businesses.
