Drew Barrymore reminisced with Maya Rudolph on The Drew Barrymore Show about her persistent efforts to star in the Saturday Night Live (SNL) digital short “Body Fuzion” back in 2007.

Barrymore revealed that she practically begged to participate in the skit, which parodied ’80s workout videos and was created by the comedy trio Lonely Island, comprising Andy Samberg, Jorma Taccone, and Akiva Schaffer.

“I remember that week when Akiva, Jorma, and Andy were like, ‘You know what? We aren’t going to do a short this week,'” Barrymore recounted. “And I was like, no, no, no, no.”

Rudolph acknowledged that those were the early days when the group didn’t have to churn out a new short every week because of their exceptional quality.

Barrymore emphasized her persistence, revealing, “I kept begging. I would go into their office every single day and I was like, I know it’s me again.”

Rudolph, surprised, exclaimed, “Are you serious? You had to beg for it?” Barrymore confirmed, “Beg!”

Rudolph expressed gratitude for Barrymore’s persistence, acknowledging the resulting creation of “Body Fuzion.”

The skit featured Rudolph, Kristen Wiig, and Amy Poehler engaging in low-impact workouts under Barrymore’s instruction. One memorable moment involved Rudolph using pencils as weights and uniquely pronouncing the word, to which she simply responded, “I don’t know. I just like doing stuff like that.”

Barrymore and Rudolph’s conversation highlights the behind-the-scenes effort that went into creating one of SNL’s beloved digital shorts.
