Academy Award-winning producer Daniel Dreifuss, known for his work on All Quiet on the Western Front, has joined forces with Mexican filmmaker Hari Sama for the upcoming feature Red Men. Sama, acclaimed for his autobiographical film This is not Berlin, is set to helm this edgy coming-of-age tale centered around Austrian expressionist painter Egon Schiele.

Red Men promises a provocative exploration of Schiele’s life and art, focusing on his intimate connection with Dominik Van Osen, his lover and muse.

Their relationship, set against the backdrop of turn-of-the-century Vienna, inspired Schiele’s groundbreaking Expressionist style while challenging societal norms and his own sexual identity.

Dreifuss expressed his enthusiasm for bringing untold stories to the screen, particularly those with contemporary resonance. He highlighted Sama’s unique perspective on Schiele’s life, emphasizing the film’s relevance in today’s world.

Sama shared his passion for Schiele’s story, particularly the revelation that Schiele’s famous Red Men paintings may have depicted his gay friends, including Osen. This discovery ignited Sama’s desire to explore the untold aspects of Schiele’s life and art.

Penned by Sama, Max Barron, and Diana Coronado, Red Men is set to commence filming later this year, with casting currently underway. Andres Budnik and Eben Davidson of Vision Entertainment are also on board as producers.

Sama’s punk-rock sensibility and directorial prowess have earned him critical acclaim, making him a fitting choice to helm Red Men. Meanwhile, Dreifuss brings his wealth of experience in storytelling, ensuring that Schiele’s tale receives the cinematic treatment it deserves.

With production on the horizon, Red Men promises to be a bold and thought-provoking addition to the cinematic landscape, shedding light on the life and legacy of Egon Schiele in a way that resonates with contemporary audiences.
