Beth Peters, the cherished actor and vocalist renowned for her role on “General Hospital,” passed away on March 14 in central Florida after a brief illness. She leaves behind a legacy of talent and warmth at the age of 92.

In the early 1980s, Peters graced the screen in eight episodes of the beloved ABC soap opera, portraying the character Mrs. Whitaker.

Her role as the nurturing Mrs. Whitaker, offering sage advice from her rural kitchen in Beecher’s Corners, endeared her to audiences, particularly as she played a surrogate mother to Laura Spencer, portrayed by Genie Francis, during the character’s romantic journey with Luke Spencer, played by Anthony Geary.

Peters embarked on her acting and singing journey as a teenager along the coastal shores of New Jersey. Her Broadway debut in 1955 as an extra in “Inherit the Wind” marked the beginning of a remarkable career that included portraying Mrs. Brady in the final months of the show.

Throughout her illustrious career, Peters graced numerous regional theaters, captivating audiences with her performances in productions such as “Marion the Librarian” and classics like “Sound of Music,” “Show Boat,” “Big River,” and “Funny Girl.”

In addition to her memorable stint on “General Hospital,” Peters left her mark on television with appearances in popular shows like “Mr. Belvedere,” “Quantum Leap,” and “The Waltons,” as well as notable film roles in “Where Love Has Gone” and “Back to School.”

Survived by her son Sean Williams, step-daughters Barbara Davison and Monica Lange, along with numerous relatives, Peters leaves behind a profound legacy cherished by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

She was a dedicated member of several entertainment guilds and associations, embodying the essence of a true artist.
