The first episode of American Idol season 20 aired on Sunday. It was a rollercoaster of emotions, not just for the contestants who are usually seen with wrecking nerves but also for the judges.

This weekend, judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, and Luke Bryan sat down for the initial auditions, formally kicking off the quest to find the next singing superstar. In season 20, however, there is a twist. In addition to the regular golden tickets to Hollywood, three platinum tickets will be handed to the outstanding contestants in Nashville, Austin, and Los Angeles.

The contestants serenade with their melodious voices to impress the judges, and the shocking part was revealed when the first of the three platinum tickets were given to HunterGirl, a 23-year-old music therapist who works with soldiers to convert their heartbreaking tales into beautiful songs. Bryan described her confident, sincere rendition of Rascal Flatts’ “Riot” as a “New generation Miranda Lambert,” and called her as his favorite female country voice.

Not only this, but it has only been one day of the auditions, and the American Idol auditions have set the bar way too high and something never seen before. Taylor Fagins, one of the most beautiful voices, heard on the platform. It made Katy Perry emotional, and Lionel Richie said, โ€œWhat I’m emotional about is… we need your song in 2022.โ€

Fans are enjoying the new season so far and are hoping for more beautiful voices!
