Riggan Thomson used to be a hero. In fact, he still is. That’s how the public thinks of him. That’s how the critics think of him. That’s what the voice in his head tells him. He’s still the superhero “Birdman”. Unfortunately, being Birdman doesn’t bring Thomson either critical recognition or financial rewards. He, therefore, decides to stage his own version of a Broadway adaptation of Raymond Carver’s short story, “What We Talk About When We Talk About Love.” Cue a dry, satire comedy about actors, acting, theater, and fame. Despite the best (or worst) efforts of the voice of Birdman in his head, Thomson manages to turn disaster into triumph. He wins over not just the public and the critics but the people who really love him. Then he makes a final, spectacular, exit.
