What’s Karen Pirie about?
The Karen Pirie novels follow a young Scottish detective in the Scottish university town of St. Andrew’s. We’re told: “True to Val McDermid’s iconic character, DS Karen Pirie is a young and fearless Scottish investigator with a quick mouth and tenacious desire for the truth.”
Following the success of a controversial true-crime podcast, Pirie will reopen the investigation into a 1996 murder case in the series. Despite suspicion surrounding the three inebriated students who claimed to have found Rosie Duff’s body, no charges have been filed.
After 25 years, Karen will find out if these men knew more than they initially claimed, expose several errors in the initial investigation, and encounter resistance from the police force’s own officers who oversaw the initial investigation.
