Peacock continues to extend its wings (or feathers) by releasing a slew of new shows for subscribers to enjoy across all genres. Existing sitcoms are also returning for second seasons on the streaming service, such as Tina Fey’s amusing comedy Girls5eva, which returns this month for its second season. However, not every Peacock program has been a success, with several already being canceled and others receiving mixed reviews. Peacock, on the other hand, is well worth the membership, with a constantly updated slate of originals and access to popular network programming.

But how do you choose which shows to watch? This list of the finest shows on Peacock right now is constantly updated, and here are the possibilities to consider for May. There’s a performance for everyone, whether you want to laugh, weep, or jump out of your seat.

  1. Young Rock (2021):
best-standup-comedy-movies-on-peacock-tv

Genre: Comedy

Cast: Dwayne Johnson, Joseph Lee Anderson, Stacey Leilua

If you’ve ever wondered about the origin of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, the famous wrestler-turned-A-list-actor, this sitcom explores genuine stories from his boyhood entertainingly and creatively. Based on the concept that a modern-day Johnson is campaigning for president and is being interviewed, he remembers significant, often improbable episodes in his life that he relates to his relatability to ordinary Americans. The performance jumps back and forth in time, from when he was a little kid to when he was a teenager to when he was in college, and incorporates true stories from the actor’s life, albeit often out of sequence. The supporting cast of characters, which includes Johnson’s parents (including wrestler Rocky Johnson), grandmother, and other prominent wrestlers from the era like Andre the Giant, The Iron Sheik, and “Macho Man” Randy Savage, are all excellent. Prepare to relive the great days once more.

Genre: Comedy

Cast: Nicole Byer, Justin Cunningham, Aaron Jennings

The primary protagonists are close friends who deal with the regular hardships and turmoil that life throws at them, counting on one another for support to get them through. Like every sitcom about a group of pals, there’s a distinct mix of characters, from hopeless romantics to strict vegans, journeymen, and divorcees. There’s also the regular gathering space, where most of the shenanigans take place over music and drink. Its Friends and Living Single for a New Generation, complete with 21st-century twists like Tinder dating and Netflix binge-watching. The cast chemistry and comedy of Grand Crew have been appreciated.

  1. Bust Down (2022):
best-standup-comedy-movies-on-peacock-tv

Genre: Comedy

Cast: Jak Knight, Langston Kerman, Sam Jay

This sitcom, which stars Chris Redd from Saturday Night Live and is executive produced by Lorne Michaels, follows four men who work in a casino in middle America. They despise their mundane lives and careers, yet every attempt to discover anything more interesting just digs them further into their hole. The program has been dubbed “absurd,” with each episode containing just vulgar, irreverent humor and no meaningful significance or moral teachings. Simply told, Bust Down is meant to make you laugh.

  1. True Story with Ed & Randall (2022):
best-standup-comedy-movies-on-peacock-tv

Genre: Comedy

Cast: Ed Helms, Randall Park

Ed Helms and Randall Park are both amusing. They have fantastic chemistry on this reality/comedy program. The two bring actual stories to life in the same manner that a true crime story would be re-enacted on a Dateline program. Except it`s both touching and humorous here. As comedians and actors like Terry Bradshaw, Adam Pally, Tichina Arnold, and Rob Riggle star in scripted re-enactments, everyday people recall their fantastic stories (think a man sneaking into every home game of his favorite pro football team, including the Super Bowl, back in 1979, or an engineer staging a fake crime to impress his soon-to-be father-in-law). While not every tale is funny, there is enough comedy in each one to make it a feel-good, touching presentation that allows individuals to share some of the most memorable experiences in their life.

  1. Kenan (2021):
best-standup-comedy-movies-on-peacock-tv

Genre: Comedy, Family

Cast: Kenan Thompson, Chris Redd, Don Johnson

Kenan Thompson, the longest-serving cast member on Saturday Night Live (SNL), is performing double duty and returning to the sitcom world with Kenan (who can forget Kenan & Kel from the 1990s?). He plays a morning show host who is a widower father of two children. The narrative chronicles his attempt to go forward as a single father as life moves on. With a cast that includes Don Johnson as Kenan’s father-in-law Rick, Chris Redd from Saturday Night Live as his brother Gary, and Kimrie Lewis as his executive producer and buddy Mika, the series was an instant sensation. The program was revived shortly after Thompson’s Primetime Emmy Award nomination, and season 2 episodes are now accessible.

  1. American Auto (2021):
best-standup-comedy-movies-on-peacock-tv

Genre: Comedy

Cast: Harriet Dyer, Ana Gasteyer, Tye White

Ana Gasteyer, a former cast member of Saturday Night Live (SNL), stars as the new CEO of a Detroit car manufacturer in this humorous sitcom. She knows how to run a business, but she has no experience with automobiles. As the crew strives valiantly to keep up with the times and work on anything from new automotive tech to self-driving vehicles, the circumstances typically end in disaster or are at the very least humorous. The series is seen more favorably by critics than by the general public. But, given that Justin Spitzer, the man behind Superstore, is also behind this program, it’s worth watching a few episodes before passing judgment.

  1. Sanford and Son (1972):
best-standup-comedy-movies-on-peacock-tv

Genre: Comedy

Cast: Redd Foxx, Demond Wilson

All six seasons of this 1970s comedy are now available to stream, allowing fans to revisit a program that was controversial at the time due to its racial humor. Sanford and Son, adapted by TV hitmaker Norman Lear from the British comedy Steptoe and Son, paved the way for a slew of other Black-led sitcoms to follow. It covers the narrative of Fred G. Sanford, an older man who is trapped in his ways, and his interactions with his son Lamont, who is continually trying to persuade his father to view things in a new light. Normally, the two would devise plans to pay off debts, which would result in humorous ends.

  1. Saved by the Bell (2020):
best-standup-comedy-movies-on-peacock-tv

Genre: Comedy

Cast: Haskiri Velazquez, Mitchell Hoog, Josie Totah

Call it cheesy (it is), but this effort to resurrect a classic adolescent sitcom from the 1990s works strangely well. It’s all about the new roster of characters, with lots of nostalgic allusions to ’90s youngsters and returning cast members. After thirty years, a new generation of students is attending Bayside. Things become interesting when Governor Zack Morris (yep, the same Zack) throws everyone for a loop by shutting a low-income high school and merging the students from the neighborhood into more prominent public schools around the city, including Bayside High. The sitcom’s ostensibly one-dimensional facade hides intelligent tales and language that encourage self-confidence and acceptance, which are obscured by continual ridicule of prejudices and outdated technologies (yep, they found a way to bring back the brick phone). Fans of the original series will enjoy the Easter eggs, while newcomers will discover a completely new cast of characters who are related to their generation.

  1. A.P. Bio (2018)
best-standup-comedy-movies-on-peacock-tv

Genre: Comedy

Cast: Glenn Howerton, Lyric Lewis, Mary Sohn, Jean Villepique, Tom Bennett

While NBC canceled the show after two seasons, Peacock renewed it for a third and now fourth. It’s also a good thing because the series has gotten mostly positive reviews and has been lauded for its “real laughter.” Jack Carson Griffin has lost his dream job, and to make matters worse, it went to his arch-rival of all people. When he has no option but to leave Harvard and return to Ohio to teach advanced placement biology (talk about a downgrade! ), he plans to employ his honor roll students to help him avenge his main foe.

  1. Rutherford Falls (2021):

Nathan Rutherford, a member of his town’s founding family, runs the local museum and seeks to preserve traditions alive and honor relatives. However, when he discovers that authorities want to relocate a historical statue, he must battle harder than ever to preserve history. Critics have given the series higher marks than viewers, with the former claiming that it takes a few episodes to appreciate the funny script and stellar performances.
