best-peacock-tv-sci-fi-movies

Released Date: 2013

Ratings: 7.90/10 IMBd

Rotten Tomatoes rating: 84%

Directed By: Jonathan Glazer

Under the Skin (2013) has some of the most glowing reviews of any movie on this list. The film is directed by Jonathan Glazer.

The premise is that Scarlett Johansson plays an alien being that looks like a beautiful woman who seduces men and then kills them. While it sounds like a horror movie, Under the Skin is actually more of a thriller with dark themes and psychological undertones.

The script was written by Walter Campbell, who also wrote Trainspotting (1996), Shallow Grave (1994), Filth: The Mary Whitehouse Story (2013) and T2 Trainspotting (2017).

His writing style shows through in the complex characters he creates for Johansson’s character as well as others in the film such as David Bowie’s performance as an older man who lives in Scotland.

The cinematography by Daniel Landin uses low-key lighting throughout much of Under the Skin which makes for some very atmospheric shots where you feel like you’re inside someone else’s head instead of just watching them on screen!

This really helps bring out all aspects about what this world would be like if it were real – not just what we see when we watch TV or go see movies but also how those things make us feel afterwards once our brains have been exposed to so many different stimuli over time.
