Mantis actor explains how the character has changed in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3’

Pom Klementieff, who plays Mantis in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, addresses how her character has evolved in the third instalment of the franchise.

At the San Diego Comic-Con, Klementieff stated that Mantis is on a path of self-discovery, developing her talents while gaining confidence. She does, though, assure that the character will see more action.

“She learned a lot more about herself, she’s on a journey of self-discovery, and she feels more self-confident and more in her own power. You’re gonna see more of that. She’s gonna be like, ‘Grr.. More action, dude!'”

Mantis from the MCU Guardians is an unique hero in the franchise, since her powers as an empath differentiate her from superheroes with combat-oriented skills. She was first revealed as Ego’s servant, using her skills to enable him to sleep. When Ego was defeated, she joined the Guardians and has been a member of the squad ever since. And, while Klementieff’s superhero is normally a rather more hesitant figure, the prospect of action is an intriguing or hilarious knowing Gunn is directing.

James Gunn, returns as writer and director for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Aside from the third film, which will be released next year and will feature a baby Rocket as well as some backstory, Gunn and franchise actors Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, Karen Gillan, and Klementieff will all show up in The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, which will be available on Disney+.
