What’s the plot of Quantum Leap

In the not-too-distant future, physicist Dr. Sam Beckett (Bakula) theorizes that time travel inside one’s own lifetime is conceivable and receives government funding to create his project Quantum Leap. After spending $43 billion, the government threatens to suspend funding if no progress is achieved. Sam resolves to test the project accelerator on his own to rescue the project before anybody can stop him.

He is pushed back in time, and when he regains consciousness, he discovers that he appears to everyone else as a person into whom he has leapt. He also has partial amnesia about his own identity. A hologram of his friend Admiral Al Calavicci is visible and audible only to Sam. He assists in explaining to Sam that he must correct something that went wrong in the past, aided by the resources of the project’s supercomputer Ziggy. As once corrected, he should be able to leap back to the present.

Despite successfully repairing the past, Sam continues to leap to another location and time in the second half of the twentieth century. He sets right what previously went wrong, hoping each time that his next leap will be the leap home.

Interesting insights about Quantum Leap

The original Quantum Leap series became a fan favorite because of its slice-of-life style to the narrative, following Sam Beckett (Scott Bakula) as he spent a day in someone else’s life attempting to right a wrong and set them on a better path.

He jumped into dozens of eras and stories over the course of five seasons and 97 episodes, and while the basic concept is simple, the show did have its own bit of sci-fi canon to keep track of, including a few key leaps and a series finale that raised as many questions as it answered.
